Kathmandu University holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC)

Dhulikhel, Kavre – Kathmandu University hosted a socially distant groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Nepal Technology Innovation Center (NTIC) at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept 14.  The event was conducted inside Kathmandu University premises in presence of limited personnel following the safety protocols of COVID-19. The program was attended by the university officials, journalists, other stakeholders, mayors and the representatives from the municipalities of Dhulikhel, Banepa, Panauti, Panchkhal and Namobuddha.

The ceremony marked the construction of the 3,117 square meters (33,551.11 square foot) NTIC building inside Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel under the project for ‘Integrated Rural Development of Nepal through Strengthening Research and Development Capacity of Kathmandu University (IRDP)’. The IRDP project, with a total funded amount of 10 million dollars, has two implementing agencies: Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal on behalf of the Republic of Korea and Kathmandu University (KU) on behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. The construction of the building is estimated to cost $4,067,000 and will be completed by Nov 13, 2022. The construction bid was awarded to Lumbini Builders (P.) Ltd.

NTIC represents a long-term strategic investment to create a transforming innovation resource, enabling Nepal to address research needs in key areas and compete in the global scenario of future–generating growth and innovation in Nepal. It will make world-leading research and technologies in the field of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alternative and Renewable Energy and Health-Related Livelihood available in a way that Nepal can engage within a professional and entrepreneurial environment.

NTIC aims to be a one-stop platform that brings together people from different backgrounds and sectors to foster research and innovation for the integrated rural development of Nepal. It will also facilitate incubation and then scaling up of the innovations and discoveries that emerge out of this center.

On the occasion of the groundbreaking ceremony, IRDP/NTIC also launched its official website(http://ntic.ku.edu.np)to the general public as a platform providing information related to NTIC and the project.
