Topic: “Production of xylanase for poultry feeding from a microbe by submerged fermentation and establishment of Nepal Microbial Type Culture Collection (NMTCC)”

Project Description:

Xylan is the second abundant hemicelluloses avalable in the word. They are present in cereals and wooden logs. Poultry animals uses cereals as feeding and 70% of cereals are excreted undigested because xylanase is not available as a digestive enzyme naturally which break backbone of xylan. Thus it is essential to pretreat cereals or poultry feeding with the enzyme to increase digestion of poultry feeding.

Objectives:

  1. Primary objective of this research is to produce xylanase, a digestive enzyme for poultry feeding and its production scale up
  2. In vivo testing of the enzyme will be carried out in poultry farm keeping both +ve and –ve control group and testing group. Their growth will be monitored.
  3. Optimization of fermentation medium for optimium production of xylanase.

Expected Impacts:

  1. – There will be revolution on productivity of Poultry farmers. Our preliminary (base line) research showed that digestively of xylene will be enhanced 16 times if this enzyme is used to pre-treat poultry feed. We can imagine the feed utility after treating with this.
  2. Socio-economic status of poultry farmers and rural people will be enhanced due increased productivity by using this enzyme.
  3. Nepal is self-dependent fully in poultry, after this Nepal becomes self-reliant on important component (digestive enzyme) of poultry feed.
