Topic: “Isolation of Baccatin III, a precursor to Taxol, an anti-cancer drug, from Taxus plant found in Nepal”

Project Description:

• Nepal because of her geographical diversity is very rich in bio- diversity.
• Taxol, an anti-cancer drug can be isolated from barks of Taxus plant
• Baccatin III a precursor to Taxol can also be isolated lfrom eaves and twigs of the Taxus plant.

Objectives:

• To isolate bioactive components from Taxus plants.
• To test the bioactive components on cancer cells.
• To help in conservation of medicinal plant.

Expected Impact: 

• Training of human resources and capacity building of the Department.
• Isoloation of the bioactivc components from Taxus species
• Functional system in Nepal for similar projects
